Here are some basic facts about tetanus: it is treatable, rarely deadly, and the person actually has to have a deep puncture wound not only with rusted metal but also with infected farm animal fecal matter that has the bacteria.
Tetanus is an anaerobic bacteria which dies in the presence of oxygen. If there was a deep puncture wound, generally from stepping on a rusty nail infected with the bacteria from cow, sheep, or pig manure, the bacteria could contaminate the blood stream. Wound care alone can prevent or eliminate the risk of tetanus. Milking the wound to make sure it bleeds well to rid the body of any possible contamination is key. A great way to do this is with warm water over the sink. I would do it for 10 minutes at least. Also, applying hydrogen peroxide will deliver oxygen to the wound and kill the bacteria.
Vaccination for tetanus begins at 2, 4, and 6 months of age. These children are not even walking, let alone around manure and rusty nails. The reason we introduce it to babies is because in third-world countries where instruments are not sterilized to cut the umbilical cord, tetanus among infants is more common.
If someone does get a deep, dirty puncture wound it takes 2 weeks for the spore to germinate into the bacteria and release the toxin, so they could get the vaccine after the injury if they wanted to. The diagnosis is entirely clinical. There are no blood tests or other tests to confirm it, it is based on suspicion and symptoms. I have heard stories in which people who scratched themselves with something metal in an area where neither feces or tetanus could live experience tightness in their jaw. I have also heard of stories where people afraid of freezing to death actually froze to death in warm situations because the merely thought they were freezing. Don’t underestimate the power of fear in how our body responds. I wonder how many cases of tetanus really were cases of fear? Tetanus is treated with antibiotics.
Recovery can take several weeks to several months. If there is an actual infection, the survival rate is about 87%. Between 2001 and 2008, 233 cases of tetanus occurred in the US, of those 13% were fatal. Vaccine status was only reported for 39.5%. Of those, 60% had been vaccinated against tetanus anywhere from 1 time, to as many as 4 times. So, you can STILL get tetanus even when you are fully vaccinated for it!
Another problem with the vaccine is that kids don't get vaccinated with just tetanus, they get DTaP which also has diphtheria and pertussis. Pertussis vaccine recipients can develop and/or spread whooping cough from the vaccine.
Here are the DTaP vaccine ingredients straight from the CDC website:
DTaP (Daptacel)
aluminum phosphate, formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, 2-Phenoxyethanol, Stainer-Scholte medium, modified Mueller’s growth medium, modified Mueller-Miller casamino acid medium (without beef heart infusion), dimethyl 1-beta-cyclodextrin, ammonium sulfate
DTaP (Infanrix)
formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, aluminum hydroxide, polysorbate 80, Fenton medium (containing bovine extract), modified Latham medium (derived from bovine casein), modified Stainer-Scholte liquid medium
No matter which version you get, you are injecting aluminum and formaldehyde into the body. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen. Polysorbate 80 is a solvent that also causes cancer and is used in the vaccines to make sure the aluminum passes the blood-brain barrier. This causes brain inflammation and heavy-metal poisoning.
Package inserts also list these side-effects for DTaP (not all are immediately seen):
Serum-sickness
all joints painful
headache
nausea
vomiting
cardiac arrhythmias
tachycardia
syncope (fainting)
cranial nerve paralysis
neurological complications
seizures
encephalopathy
anaphylaxis
and Guillian-Barre' Syndrome…
"People who experience severe reactions most likely have high serum tetanus anti-body levels due to excess vaccination.” (1)
Are you more afraid of tetanus or the vaccine for it?
